The pick up features a unique miniature form factor and a high cut off frequency and enables one to scan the surface with a high velocity. The measurement head as shown features 3 miniature drive units with integrated pick ups hinged to them which are mounted under an angle of 120°. These can move by the common motor in radial direction and are pressed against the cylinder face. Below the pick ups there is an air extraction vent which serves to remove machining debris from the object surface. The individual drive units can easily be exchanged via quick-set clamps. The unit represents a skidless measurement to which end the drive units possess a datum level. This datum level measurement system consists of a guide plane, which rests perpendicularly suspended on the workpiece via two points before and behind the stylus. The pick up measures the workpiece surface relative to this datum. This results in a very small measurement loop. This is the first and presently only automated turn-key roughness measurement unit worldwide. It lends itself for the quality control of honed surfaces of cylinders and liners in the production cycle directly after the honing process. The honing structure is measured at several settable levels and several angular positions simultaneously by up to 16 pick ups. This turn-key unit provides 100% workpiece control and by improving quality and yield reduces manufacturing cost up to 80%. Technical Data Several pick ups can be place at one level depending on the available space. The pick up levels can be shifted axially to any position and fixed. Optionally the entire cylinder face is scanned by a camera within seconds. Pores can be detected and evaluated according to the customer’s specs.
